The objects of the Society are:

(a) To become and remain registered with the Guild.

(b) To further the interests of enrolled students.

(c) To assist new students with orientation to the University.

(d) To encourage and promote cooperation between the Society and other Student societies.

(e) To do all things that are necessary and proper for the benefit and advancement of the Society and the Guild.

(f) To promote collaboration between students, placing an emphasis on teamwork and mutual exchange of experiences;

(g) To promote surgery as a vocation and lifestyle;

(h) To develop the necessary knowledge and fascination with human anatomy, by empowering students with the necessary clinical knowledge they will be the most prepared to apply what they’ve learnt to clinical scenarios and solve real world problems;

(i) To educate students about the pathways into surgery;

(j) To provide insight into the lives of surgeons, both inside and outside the clinic, here students will be given the opportunity to develop their understanding of patient advocacy, clinical judgements, management and leadership, medical ethics, among many other competencies vital to success in surgery;

(k) To develop a student’s surgical skills and professional behaviour, through surgically-oriented workshops students will be given to opportunity to hone their dexterity and improve their technical skills that will allow them to carry out clinical procedures in the future;

(l) To advocate for social justice and equity in surgery with a vetted interest in gender equality;

(m) To develop the relationships between current and future surgeons.
